There are basically four options you have when choosing workstations for your office space layout.

First, you could buy new workstations that are produced by an office furniture manufacturer.  Aesthetically the choices you have with new workstations for your office space design can be endless, due to the innovative new workstation concepts that many office furniture manufacturers are coming up with, which can give your space a sophisticated atmosphere.

By choosing anything other than new workstations to accommodate your office space, then you will have the following three options.

The first is a used workstation, which is generally for the budget that is tight and when office culture is not much of a concern.  The workstations generally come as is, which means buyer beware.  Once it’s sold in the aftermarket, used workstations often lose their warranties from the manufacturer, and also lose the UL Listing on electrical components, not to mention that you are building your office environment with product that has already been used.

The next two options for workstations sound similar and often are confused and treated as one in the same.  However there is a distinct difference between the two.

Remanufactured Workstations Vs.
Refurbished and Used Workstations

Remanufactured Workstations and Refurbished workstations are a great alternative to new and used. With these types of workstations you can order them to fit your office plan needs, and still have significant savings compared to purchasing new workstations.  Both refurbished and remanufactured workstations provide the end user with a choice of new fabric on the panels.

Important facts you want to know.

With Refurbished workstations you will get a paint of your choice right over the old existing paint.  Your work surfaces are usually original, which can cause problems with bowing over time, electrical components usually are not UL listed or Re-listed, and you will usually only get a short-term warranty.

With Refurbished Workstations you will have the existing paint stripped off and a fresh coat of paint of your choice will be applied.  New work surfaces are produced with your choice of laminate and the electrical components UL listed or re-listed.  Plus you get a lifetime warranty on your workstations!

Think Spaces represents new workstations and refurbished workstations by intraSPEC. We feel that these two options are best for your open office space plan.

Plan on spending a minimum of  $2000-$3000 and up on new workstations that is 6’ x 6’, and aproximately $1300-$1850 for a remanufactured workstation that is 6’x6’ in size.  Your space design layout will affect your cost as well yet by sharing cubicle panels the cost per station goes down.  There are a number of different components that you can add to your station including storage, lights, accessory rails and much more that will also have an impact on the price of your cubicles.

Other factors when budgeting for workstations are the installation and your data/electrical costs.  It is very important to use trained office furniture installers who have experience in installing the panel systems that create the workstation. You will need to have a data specialist run cables from your computer/phone cabinet to the workstations to get your phone, network, and internet properly set up.  You will also need a licensed electrician to provide the necessary electrical service needed at each station.

A warning about electrical:

DIFFERENT municipalities have DIFFERENT electrical codes that must be followed when setting up electric for workstations.  Not following the electrical code enforced by the local electrical inspector could cost you thousands of dollars in correcting the problem, and can lead to business loss and interruption in severe cases.

When you contact Think Spaces, we have the knowledge and expertise to get the job done right.  With our years of experience dealing with workstations you can rest assured that your workstations will be design and installed to your satisfaction.
